LOOK WHAT I COULD FIND vol 62
"Wild women 6" - 16 filthiest feline frenzies

In The Trashcan Records       GEM062
"Teenage girls singing about ex-boyfriends, lonely weekends, fisting and other clichés..."

1. fist me with your wristwatch on - lurch

From their sole release "Pet my pussy" EP in 1992, issued on Smilin' Skull Records, a Canadian label. This song could win the contest of the crudest song title. Yes they are wild women (although there are also two guys in the band) from Edmonton, Canada.

9. shanty tramp - the a-bones

Song by the ever lovely Miriam Linna, once a Cramps drummer. Recorded in 1992 and issued by the fantastic Giant Claw label. All their 45s were numbered limited releases on coloured wax. The A-side is a cover as well: "The world's greatest sinner" from the 1962 Tim Carey movie.

2. fingered - the loudmouths

Beth yells and screams and she's having fun while being "fingered" on this 1998 release. See also vol 37 for the B-side. Great live act too!

10. oh woe is me - joan jett & the black hearts

In 1982 she sang a terrific version of the Tommy James & The Shondells classic "Crimson and clover" and put this Suzi Quatro-esque glamrock tune "Oh woe is me" on the other side.

3. resurrection - vice squad

The second Vice Squad 45, also on Riot City. Beki Bondage, from Bristol, became a punkette role model. From 1981. See also vol 91 for another track from this single.

11. how much more - go-go's

Debut release of this short-lived successful LA all-girl group. "We got the beat" was a smash hit. This is the girlie power pop flipside that became the trademark for The Bangles. Released in the UK on Stiff Records in 1980.

4. punk rock ist nicht tot - kyra

A Headcoats song performed by an ex-Headcoatee girl known as Kyra Rubella. Kyra Deconinck was Billy Childish' wife and they divorced a little later. Punk's not dead, indeed. It never died in the Medway delta.

12. right track wrong train - cindy lauper

Don't you hate "Girls just want to have fun"? But I must ask you not to throw away your copy. Flip the 45 and be surprised by the B-side. OK, it's not punk, it's not garage,… it's still a pop tune, but too good to be thrown away. It hasn't resurfaced on one of her many albums yet. Recorded in 1983 when Lauper was 30 years old.

5. i'm a cliche - x-ray spex

This is the best X-Ray Spex 45, maybe because it was their first one. A-side is the classic punk anthem "Oh bondage up yours" and this is the magnificent flipside.

13. i'll stick with you - the primitives

"Crash" was their biggest hit, but I went directly for the flipside, a crystal-clear indie girl pop trash like Jesus And Mary Chain in their "April skies" days. A 1988 release on Lazy Records.

6. ex-boyfriend - period pains

Too young to be talking about an ex-boyfriend, you think? Hell no, these teenage punk tarts don't taunt their lips; they haunt their ex-boyfriends even on this 45 which  was recorded at the BBC. 1997 was great! At least for 2 minutes.

14. long lonely weekend - transvision vamp

To me it sounds that all those English synth-pop rock bands have used the same recording techniques and the same drum sequencers. Still this B-side-only outtake is better than I first thought. It appeared on the second issue of debut single "Revolution baby" in 1988.

7. rich kid - spoiled brats

When The Trashwomen disbanded, all three girls formed different bands. Elka Zolot founded Spoiled Brats. They recorded this '77 punk anthem in 1993 and it remained unreleased until 1995 when Real Records from South England released it. It was their third and last 45. Then Elka and Ian decided to form a new band, The Spastics (see vol 72).

15. eve white/eve black - siouxsie & the banshees

1980 B-side of "Christine" and especially known for the live version on the live album "Nocturne" from 1983. The first minute is slow, tedious and even boring, but then Siouxsie and the rest of the band wake up and prove why she was called the cold wave queen.

8. the whole price of blood - siouxsie & the banshees

When vampires go to their own supermarket, they ask for this one. It's the B-side of their 1987 single "Songs from the edge of the world", an outtake from their "Through the looking glass" album. The A-side was featured on a later CD-reissue.

16. spineless little shit - thee headcoatees

B-side of "Ballad of the insolent pup" on a 1995 Vinyl Japan release, as mostly written by Billy Childish. Medway maidens on speed.
