LOOK WHAT I COULD FIND vol 73
"I hate music 1" - 16 exquisite examples of modern music haters

In The Trashcan Records       GEM073
"Beware of the severe shock you'll experience after listening to more than fifteen minutes of this insane aural assault on 45rpm..."

1. i hate music - the mad

Joji Tani is world-wide known for his make-up and special effects (Nightmare on Elm Street, Poltergeist, Predator,…), but when he left Osaka, Japan, for New York, he also formed a shock-rock punk band called The Mad. It was 1978 and the record label was Disgusting Records. Since that day he called himself Screaming Mad George. Only Japanese weirdos can make music like this.

9. no more - weak

Semen coloured clear wax EP on Timer/Road Track Records. Recorded in 1996 by a trashy punk foursome from La Rochelle, France.

2. my love is bad - the motards

Debut 45 on their own record label in 1994. Loved by Mummies, New Bomb Turks, Rip-Offs, … and many punk rock fans came to the shows to stare at their lovely drummer, Suzanne.

10. jerk off pt1 - tab hunter

Released as a 5" single on Voodoo Rhythm, the Swiss label of Lightning Beatman. Trashy and kinky, crazy and randy, and wilder than 99% of what was recorded in 1997. See also vol 16 for more Tab Hunter trash.

3. burning army men - rocket from the crypt

Californian punk rock band formed by singer John Reis in 1990 after leaving post-hardcore outfit Pitchfork from San Diego.  This 1996 B-side does not appear on their album "Scream, Dracula, scream!", an Interscope Records release.

11. s.f. sister - monster truck five

Columbus, Ohio, has always been home for the wildest bands, including this noise rock outfit  ŕ la New Bomb Turks that recorded this for Chrome Frog in 1993.

4. i didn't mean 2 turn u on - make-up

One of the physically most intense live gigs I ever attended. It was in Lintfabriek in Belgium in 1999, a year after this single's release on Woo Me. For the A-side, see vol 83. Fantastic garage trash band from Washington DC.

12. which of us is me - leppo & the jooves

They are actually The Soft Boys! I don't know when this EP was released, but I'm sure it's a 1978 studio outtake on this unofficial release on Black Snake Records. Robyn Hitchcock was the leader of this UK outfit who played an early 80s version of psychedelic guitar pop. The good thing about this track is that it's heavier than we are used to hear from the Soft Boys.

5. the slider - chrome cranks

The Marc Bolan song completely transformed by these Ohio born rockers. They moved from Cincinatti to New York and met Tim Warren of Crypt Records, who released their debut album in 1994. A year later this 45 was issued by Demolition Derby Records as flip to "Stuck in a cave".

13. proud - korn

One of the first bands that were labeled "nu metal". "Proud" was a single-only track, B-side of "No place to hide" which can be found on "Life is peachy", also issued by Immortal Records in 1996. It's limited edition of 7500 copies on white vinyl, individually numbered (mine is 3161).

6. head - the jesus and mary chain

B-side of their fourth 7" "Just like honey". Locked up in an echo chamber they produced a unique sound, still with Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie on the drums in 1985.

14. write record release blues - the jesus and mary chain

From the 4-track "Sound Of Speed" EP, released in 1993, their strongest release after 1987. They put the fuzz in the rave.

7. crawdad - the revelators

Garage trash trio including the magnificent John Schoolley on guitar. This is the single-only B-side of "Serve the man", released in 1996 on Crypt Records. One of most manic bands ever from Missouri.

15. brown - hairy patt band

Brown sleeve, brown label, brown song title… the brown sounds of the Hairy Patt Band, formed by Joe Patt and Jason Drenik in the early 90s. Guitar terror, distorted throats and an early 70s hard rock feeling are all the ingredients you need for these brown sounds. This was their second 45, released on Chrome Frog in 1995. Two years later they disbanded.

8. speed queen mama - the titans

Tokyo trashrock outfit that was active in the second half of the 90s. After two Get Hip releases they ended their short career with this Repent Records release in 1998.

16. bulletproof cupid - girls against boys

Washington DC indie post-rock band, formed in 1988, and released this 45 in 1993, their first for Touch And Go Records. In 2009 it reappeared on an anthology album "Venus luxury no. 1 baby" on the same record label. Almost 5 minutes of sheer guitar mayhem of a very high quality.
